“The Christmas season is a time of reflection, unity, and goodwill. It is a time to pause amidst the demands of our profession, to come together as a family, and to celebrate the values that bind us: integrity, dedication, and a shared commitment to telling the stories that matter.

“This evening, as we sing carols and share moments of fellowship, let us also remember the essence of this season. It is a season that calls us to be bearers of light in our communities, to promote peace and understanding, and to extend a helping hand to those in need. As journalists, these principles are not just seasonal—they are the bedrock of our work and our calling.

“I would like to acknowledge and thank the organizing committee for their hard work and creativity in putting together this event. Your efforts have given us an opportunity to relax, reconnect, and recharge for the year ahead.”

However, the FCT NUJ boss called for unity, love and brotherhood among journalists and to speak with one voice and not to sow seeds of discord.

“To my fellow journalists, let this evening remind us of the strength we derive from our unity. The challenges we face in our profession are numerous, but together, we have shown resilience, courage, and a steadfast commitment to upholding the truth.

“As we prepare to step into a new year, may we continue to raise the bar in our practice and uphold the ideals of ethical journalism.

“As we enjoy tonight’s festivities, I encourage us to sing from our hearts, laugh without reservation, and forge deeper connections with one another. Let us carry the joy and camaraderie of this gathering into our homes, our newsrooms, and our lives”, she added.
